Hats
The whole purpose of this blog is to act as a limelight for me. I don’t introduce too many ‘characters’ into this personal soap opera so as not to distract from the main storyline. Every now and then I will let in Eric, Eunice or Eddie for a short appearance, just to add a little local colour (it was only the other day that I realised some of the people I mention the most all have names beginning with the initial ‘E’). Generally though I try not to bring in a lot of names.
One person I have mentioned a number of times, due to his vital role in the Titanic production, is Martin. Previously I have alluded to his many talents. But he never ceases to amaze me. The other evening he brought along, for various female characters in the cast, hats that he has made for them. They are absolutely marvellous. But where does he find the time? He is at every rehearsal and then producing high quality pieces of costume. That is one of the special features of HTC productions, the absolute dedication of so many people who make it work. It is one of the reasons why I try and never miss a rehearsal, because you know other people are putting in far more than you and you owe it to them not to let them down.
Having said that it was interesting to see how the hats altered the way the characters could interact with each other. Suddenly the ladies have a large piece of headgear on and it becomes more difficult to get your head close to theirs. So movements we have been making for the last few weeks are subtly altered by the introduction of the hats.
On a more personal note, and to bring in one of the ‘E’ characters. Eddie is in the same dressing room as me. The list went up the other evening. The ‘dressing room list’ is almost as important as the list that tells us which part we have got. Particularly for those sharing with Eddie because it means you get access to ‘the buffet’. Last year I wrote about Eddie’s buffet, and doubtless I will mention it again this year. It is a major factor (did you get that pun Eddie?) in making the week an enjoyable one.

We save the excitement of finding out who’s in which dressing room until show week. Mainly because the committee have soooo much to do, and save that until the last minute!
How intriguing about the ‘E’ people – it’s like Superman’s LL coincidence factor. Childhood sweetheart, archenemy and eventual wife, among others, all have the same initials.

Yes it is a bit strange (in a subconscious choice way). I will have to mention other people of different initials to break the cycle. But will that just lead to me trying (too hard) not to mention the ‘E’ people?
As for the dressing room list, I don’t think our list is as sophisticated as being drawn up by a committee. That looks like a recipe for making sure no one is happy (because there is always someone who wants to be with someone else!).

[...] post will be about another of Martin’s amazing creations. Even more stupendous than the hats. Make sure you don’t miss [...]

Oops, the whole committee doesn’t do the dressing rooms list, but someone on the committee (me this year) normally liases with the director’s assistant to work it out. Oh, the potential for annoying people really is incredible! I tried very hard not to, though.
